ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Monday indicted former senator of the Pakistan Peoples Party Faisal Raza Abidi in a contempt of court case.

Mr Abidi was produced in court in connection with the hearing of a case about an interview in which he used “highly insulting and inappropriate language” against Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, as mentioned in a first information report (FIR) filed against him.

The former senator was arrested on Oct 10 after he appeared before the Supreme Court’s two-judge bench in the case.

The complaint was registered by the apex court’s public relations officer, Shahid Hussain Kamboyo, in the Secretariat Police Station under Pakistan Penal Code’s sections 228, 500, 505(ii) and 34 along with Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

The former senator denied the charges, after which the court ordered prosecutors to present witnesses in the next hearing.

The court also ordered a medical examination of Mr Abidi after his counsel requested that he be shifted to hospital due to health concerns.

Meanwhile, Mr Abidi, whose written apology had been turned down by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Sheikh Azmat Saeed, on Monday filed an amended apology.
