PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has accused Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf of using the National Accountability Bureau against its political opponents and feared that the targeted accountability against top leaders would harm democracy in the country.

PPP central executive committee member Rahim Dad Khan told mediapersons here on Friday that such actions were forcing his party activists to start agitation against the government. He blamed the government for making state institutions controversial.

Rahim Dad, who is also a former provincial president of the party, said that the PTI government was unable to deliver and thus the rulers were trying to victimise the opposition leaders one way or the other, but such attempts would fail to yield any positive results for future of the country.

Rahim Dad advises PTI to focus on its election manifesto

He recalled that the PPP had a long list of sacrifices as its founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had offered sacrifice of his life, but did not bow before anyone and same was the position of Benazir Bhutto who was martyred for the only reason that she served the country selflessly.

He said that former president Asif Ali Zardari remained imprisoned for about 11 years in baseless cases and he was eventually exonerated of the charges by different courts.

The NAB cases, he said, were meant to force the PPP leadership to keep away from politics, but it would be a dangerous step to weaken a party which believed in federation, rule of law and development of the country.

Rahim Dad said that the issuance of notice to party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was a conspiracy hatched by anti-democratic forces. He said that the PPP workers would not let this conspiracy and they would take a firm stand to support their leadership.

He said that targeted accountability was not acceptable to them. He suggested that the PTI government should focus on its election manifesto to bring a real change in the fate of people instead of victimising politicians. He said that PPP would not support any move that could destabilise the country or weaken democratic system.

The PPP, he said, wanted the government to complete its constitutional tenure by focusing on development of the country. He said that the price hike and rupee devaluation would be enough to lead to collapse of the government even before completion of its tenure. He said that it would be the last chance of PTI in national politics if it failed to fulfil its promises regarding provision of jobs, construction of houses and dams and launching other projects.
