KARACHI: A district court on Tuesday disposed of a contempt application against the Karachi police chief and the Malir SSP for allegedly violating the court’s order regarding investigation of a case against three officials of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) for allegedly killing a man in a fake shoot-out.

Three police officials — inspector Shahzad Ali Khan, sub-inspector Waqas Anwar, in-charge of the ACLC West zone, and SHO Chaudhry Mohammad Saleem — have been booked in a case pertaining to the alleged abduction of a political worker, Asadullah Umrani, and his killing in an alleged fake encounter on Oct 15.

On Tuesday, the district and sessions judge (West), Naveed Ahmed Soomro, took up an application moved to seek contempt of court proceedings against the additional IG of Karachi, the Malir SSP and Quaidabad DSP Ejaz Mughal for allegedly violating the court’s Nov 12 order.
