I AM a retired non-commissioned officer of the armed forces living in Korangi. My only source of sustenance is my pension supplemented by occasional odd jobs and the meager salary of my wife who works in a private firm. The small house in which I live was bequeathed to me by my father.

I received an inflated electricity bill for Rs113,837 for August. My house has no air conditioner or such appliances which could make my power bill so high. I approached the concerned K-Electric complaint centre and my bill was rectified to Rs6,500.

The next month I received an even higher bill for Rs127,854. The power utility officials are now saying that my meter is faulty and I have to pay.

They also told me that power theft is rampant in my neighbourhood and that they have to extract the maximum from consumers to pay for the power theft. This is proved as I have been charged for 657 units for August the consumption of which is not possible in a house as small as mine.

I ask the K-Electric to rectify my bill. The higher authorities should ensure that honest consumers are not harassed and made to pay for the sins of power thieves.
