RAWALPINDI: An Army Public School student suffered critical injuries after a kite string cut his neck on his way home from school in the Defence Housing Authority Phase I on Friday.

The student was going home on his motorbike when the kite string cut his neck. He was taken to the hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

Soon after the incident happened, DHA told residents of Phase I and II that kite flying is strictly banned in the housing society and requested them to educate their children and servants about the hazards of kite flying and to tell them to avoid the activity as it has already been banned by the Punjab government.

A violation of the ban is punishable with a fine, imprisonment or both under the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Act, 2009.

DHA has also asked residents to report violations on its helpline.

Separately, a man was shot dead by his son in Kallar Syedan on Friday.

The police said Tasawar Iqbal, 62, had wed his only son Zia Iqbal to his brother’s daughter who was living with her parents the last few months due to domestic disputes.

On Friday, Tasawar told his son to take back the dowry she had brought with her as he cannot take care of her things. They were arguing when Zia, who is a private security guard, took out his pistol and fired at his father, killing him on the spot.

The accused managed to escape.
