Sin tax!

Published December 6, 2018

APROPOS the reports in the media that the federal government has decided to impose a Gunah tax on cigarettes. The objective is to discourage the use of tobacco and smoking and use the proceeds from the revenue thus collected on health measures.

This is an excellent idea but I take exception to the terminology used for the tax. One feels the word used is awkward. It would perhaps be better to name the levy as health tax as the same is going to be used for healthcare.
