FAISALABAD: As many as 10 people, including five lawyers, were on Wednesday booked on charges of thrashing the medical superintendent of the Tandlianwala THQ Hospital.

Submitting an application to the police, MS Dr Abdul Sattar stated that on Tuesday he was performing his duty when an armed lawyer, Mr Tariq and his fellow Shah Nawaz forced their entry into his office and attacked him.

He said the attackers dragged him from his chair and some other lawyers along with their friends started thrashing him with kicks and fists, using abusive language.

The MS said he was rescued by his staff.

He alleged the suspects had been pressurising him for shifting a patient admitted to the hospital to somewhere else, but his condition could pose a serious threat to his life if he was moved.

He said on his refusal, the lawyers had created a scene at the hospital and “harassed the patients and their attendants”.

On his complaint, Tandlianwala police booked five lawyers – Tariq, Shah Nawaz, Rana Mubashar, Khalid Mehmood, Imran Amin, besides as many unidentified people under sections 148, 149, 186 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) with no arrest so far.

A couple of days ago, a group of Faisalabad bar lawyers had allegedly kidnapped two shopkeepers of mobile market Kutchery Bazaar and took them to the barroom where they also thrashed them.

No case has been instituted against the suspects (lawyers) so far.
