ISLAMABAD: Moham­mad Abid now remains the last hope for Pakistan in the Serena Hotels ITF Futures as three other local players lost to their foreign opponents here at PTF Complex on Wednesday.

Abid advanced to the quarter-finals with an emphatic victory over eighth seed Serbian Darko Jandric in straight sets.

Muzammil Murtaza fought well but his German opponent Kai Wehnelt kept his cool to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Abid Ali Akar and Ahmed Choudhary were beaten by top seed Korean Kim Cheon Eui and third seed Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei, respectively.

In another upset Uzbek Saidal’o Saidkarimov beat sixth seed Italian Lorenzo Bocchi to book his place in the quarters.

In the ladies singles main-round matches, Mahvish Chishtie beat Mahnoor Sohail in straight sets while Shimza Naz, Hania Navaid, Sheeza Sajid and Mehek Khokhar got walkovers against their respective opponents.
