KARACHI, June 22: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad here on Wednesday reviewed the law and order situation, and the steps being taken for the forthcoming local bodies elections.

In this regard, a high-level meeting was held here at the Governor’s House, with the Sindh governor in the chair. The meeting took stock of the overall security situation in the province and steps taken to ensure peace during polls.

He said all possible steps be taken to ensure a congenial atmosphere for the holding of transparent and impartial elections by the Election Commission.

Dr Ibad stressed on implementation of the directives of the Election Commission, as well as the code of conduct, and said all possible cooperation be extended in this regard.

He said all sections of society should play their due role.

Taking stock of the law and order situation, the governor said the ongoing drive against the anti-social elements would continue, and lauded the efforts of law-enforcing agencies for curtailing burglaries and street crimes in Karachi and asked them to redouble their efforts.

He said a satisfactory law and order condition was not only necessary for elections, but also for investment and progress in every sphere of life.

He said that he would hold meetings with administrative officials and all stakeholders to the polls. He said he would convene a meeting and try to take them into confidence. He said no discrimination would be meted out to any quarter.

The Sindh governor said anti-social elements should not be allowed to take benefit of the current situation to fulfil their nefarious designs.

Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Secretary Brig (retd) Ghulam Mohammad Muhataram, IGP Sindh Asad Jahangir and others were present.—PPI
