Army seize National Women Softball title

QUETTA: Army defeated Wapda convincingly by an innings and five runs in the final to clinch the 14th National Women Softball Championship title at Government Degree Girls College in Quetta on Tuesday.

Army dominated the final in the beginning but Wapda bounced back with some good efforts and scored four runs in its four innings with Rabia, Iqra, Sana and Ume Hani scoring one run each.

But Army proved superior and scored nine runs in its six innings to annex the national championship title in style. Alia Saif and Fariha Nayab scored two runs each. Atia Ishaq, Irun Khald, Humaira Khan, Rashida Parveen and Zahida Ghauri scored one run each. Army’s pitcher Sadia Bibi and catcher Sadia Begum also played well for the winners.

Meanwhile, Punjab team claimed a bronze medal. Raheela Ilyas of Punjab team was adjudged best player of the tournament.

Former Senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani was the chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony. Director General BSB Ali Gul Kurd, SFP President Haider Lehri and Secretary Asif Azeem and BSA Secretary Naseem Khan were also present on the occasion.

In the end, Raisani distributed medals, shields, souvenirs and trophies among players.
