KARACHI, June 22: Over 100 foreign exhibitors are participating in the trade fair “My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony,” being organized by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry from June 24-26, at the Karachi Expo Centre.

The largest participation is coming from China from where as many as 83 exhibitors of “Xinjiang Exhibition Group” from Xinjiang province, under the auspices of Kashghar Administration are participating in the exhibition.

Similarly, exhibitors from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia are participating. Sri Lanka Tea Promotion Bureau will be providing free tea service for visitors at their stalls to introduce Sri Lankan tea.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Vice-Commissioner Kasghar Administration Chen Ji said that Pakistan was an important trading partner to China and during the last 50 years both the countries not only helped each other in international and regional issues, but also made and effective economic cooperation.

Mr Ji said that this time Kashgar Prefecture Administration and Xinjiang Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation were going to jointly hold the “China Xinjiang Export Commodities Fair” being held under the banner head of “My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony”.

Giving some details, he said, there will be eight general categories and 256 varieties. It includes food, cooking oil, consumer goods, home appliance, fabric and apparel, construction material, office furniture, light industry products and mechanical and electrical equipment.

He said that the objective to participate in the trade fair was to enhance the understanding and communication between the enterprises from Kashgar and local business community.

The event, he said, will help promote famous industrial products and special resources of Xinjiang and Kashgar, which will further push the South Asian countries towards closer economic cooperation and also develop mutually complementary of both sides by promoting information and resource sharing with each other.

KCCI President Khalid Firoz speaking on the occasion said that encouraged by the success of My Karachi last year, the chamber was going to hold the exhibition with the same theme on June 24.

He said that 16 exhibitors from Bangladesh were also displaying their products, ranging from silk saris, fabrics, handloom items like Nakhsi Khata, Jamdani Saree, handicraft, tribal ethnic products, imitation jewellery, jute-made goods etc.

He said a variety of local products, including textiles, electronic, food, plastic items etc., were being displayed. “SMEs are also going to participate in a big way.”
