Goodbye Captain Jack Sparrow, hello Captain Redd.

Now that we know Johnny Depp will no longer be serving in the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, speculations have arisen that his role is being replaced by a female lead named Redd - a character who is part of Disneyland and Disney World rides.

Looks like she'll finally be getting a role in the film, not just one at Disney's amusement parks.

According to Daily Mail, the original script writer, Stuart Beattie has confirmed that Disney Studios will be going in a different direction with upcoming Pirates movies.

“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now," he shared. Depp's last outing as Jack Sparrow was in Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was the lowest performing movie of all the films.

Beattie added: "I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It's the only character he's played five times, it's the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it's what he'll be remembered for. Before Jack Sparrow came along, [Depp] was considered this kind of quirky, independent actor that made these really cool little Tim Burton films, but he was by no means a movie star and a lot of people thought we were crazy for casting him at the time."

I hope they don't reboot it. Rather have a new character thrown on the same pirate world then rewrite the world and its lore.

I think Depp had atleast another Pirates MOvie in him if not two. the character should have been rebooted James Bond style as it may well form a longstanding legacy. i dont see much of a future with a female lead. people want jack Sparrow

Quite honestly the Pirates series is at its end with public having spoken with low turnout. Johnny depp may have become popular in the role but his true breakthrough was 21 Jump street decades ago. It is good for him to stop alcoholism and focus on other offbeat indie roles because he is really a good actor to be pigeon holed in one character.

It will never work. Johnny Depp has made his mark on the character. I know it's the new trend to cast women in male roles - but just to cast a woman in a male role to be trendy means your not really right for the part but we have to use a female because it's what everyone is doing. Pirates of the Caribbean did run out of steam, there is only so many sequels you can make of a movie before it sinks. (no pun intended.) But it should end. No need to reboot it. Just let it fall into Classic Film realm and move on.
