RAWALPINDI: Second phase of Punjab talent hunt programme was launched in the garrison city in which six matches in different disciplines will be held at Sports Complex and in the grounds of different government schools.

Under-16 boys and girls teams in cricket, football, handball, kabadi and wrestling had been finalised.

The basic aim of the talent hunt programme was to bring new talent in different sports and also revive the traditional games in the country.

Boys and girls badminton teams of Rawalpindi qualified for District level competitions, volleyball boys team of Kallar Syedan, volleyball girls team from Rawalpindi, table tennis boys from Rawalpindi and table tennis girls team from Gujar Khan qualified for district matches.

District sports officer Abdul Waheed Babar told Dawn that special arrangements had been made under the directives of Punjab Sports Board. He further said that all sports officers, coaches and representatives of sports organisations are fully engaged in providing every possible assistance and facilitation to players.

He was of the view that district administration intended to promote sports events at grassroots level to explore new talents.

He said that under-16 boys and girls sports tournaments would provide opportunity to youngsters to prove their skills and talents.
