Now Shah Rukh Khan is defending Thugs of Hindostan

The Aamir-Amitabh starrer has been panned by critics but the actors' friends in Bollywood have leapt to their defense

Thugs of Hindostan may not have been hailed by critics but friends of the film's stars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are defending their latest work.

After Suniel Shetty called the criticism of the film "unfortunate", Shah Rukh Khan is the latest Bollywood star to say that Thugs of Hindostan has been unfairly criticised.

In an interview with Telegraph, SRK said, “[Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan] are people who have given excellence to cinema for years. A film can be good, a film can be bad; none of us can ever claim ki ‘maine duniya ki sabsi achchi film banayi hain.’ Mr Bachchan and Aamir have been people who have constantly contributed to the excellence of cinema. The greatest contribution to Hindi cinema in the last 10 years has been from Aamir, and with Amitji, it’s been even longer. Now if a film of theirs (Thugs of Hindostan) doesn’t reach the level that you expected it to, does it take away from what they have done for cinema?”

The Zero actor continued, “I think some people have been a little too harsh. It’s heartbreaking. It doesn’t mean that their spirit is broken, they are all amazing artistes who will bounce back. But one needs to be a little less harsh. Aamir has never done a film in which he hasn’t put in his best… I’ve known him for 20 years. And if there’s anyone who can put in even more effort than Aamir — which Aamir will also agree — it’s Amitji… and at this age! So they’ve come in with good hearts and great talent and tried to make a film which tries to open up a new genre.”

He finished off by saying that with Thugs of Hindostan, Amitabh and Aamir attempted something new since “an adventure film has not been made in India in decades.”

Amitabh has been churning out trash for decades. For Amir, I agree that this was first bad film in 20 years..... and bad it was

Art is subjective. I didnt enjoy TOH so did millions of others who expressed their disapproval via social media. I am sure there are many who liked TOH but to say that people are hyping the negativity is laughable. When you pay 500 rupee per person for 3-4 people, buy snacks & soda & witness a terrible movie then expect people to be vocal about their opinion.

No one said Amir or Amitabh are bad actors but they have done a film that was bad. TOH would've been much better if it had not tried to blatantly copy POTC. That's the problem with bollywood films, despite depicting their own culture they try to blatantly copy Hollywood and most of times it backfires.

Highly anticipated movie TOH nosedived, it was just unexpected for Aamir Khan fans, who is a Perfectionist. Am not hoping much on Zero as well, but 2.0 and KGF are the only saviors of Indian Cinema for 2018

May be he wants Aamir to back him for his next flop movie (with the same story as the previous movies).

Apart from the hard earned cash, audience is also giving your their valuable time. Either movie stars should accept the criticism, or adopt a policy of returning back the money if someone doesn't like their movie. What if you go to a restaurant and the food is awful? Will you not complain about it? And how will you feel if the manager says, please don't talk negative about our food?

The movie was so bad I didn't even bother watching it after the halftime. I don't like (overrated) Amitabh but Mr. Amir Khan sure has disappointed me for the FIRST time

Nobody is critisizing Amitabh or Aamir. Both are legends who have given amazing movies. People are critisizing the director and the script. Infact Amitabh bachan’s character was the only saving grace in the film.

Actually it is only Amir who acted the best. Amitabh cannot be blamed as he is not so young but was selfishly selected by Aditya and was given a role that physically stressed him a lot . The Director and Aditya Chopra are the duping duo who deserve all the brickbats.

@neo All of a sudden when you are conditioned to watch 'other' types of action movies (Bahubali, Chennai Express, Dhoom3, and so on), which are purely fictional in essence, you get the opportunity to see an action movie with explosive performances by seasoned actors, you try to put them in the same light. Unfair, to begin with, as films should not be compared this way. The cinema fans must view such movies in a different perspective and be objective in their reviews. Hasty comments lead to a vicious ripple effect on the masses, and result in premature judgement to the detriment of the movie's fate at the box office.
