DACCA: The East Pakistan Governor, Mr Abdul Monem Khan, today [Nov 15] urged the people to give their suggestions freely without being influenced by any personal or party consideration on the Fourth Plan of the country.
In his recorded mid-of-the month broadcast from Dacca station of Radio Pakistan the Governor said it was the first time in the history of Pakistan that the people of the country had been called upon to give their opinion on a development plan because, he said, the present Government sincerely believed that the opinion of the people was final for a decision and also because the Government respected the will of the people.
The Governor, described the past decade, completed last month, as a “Decade of our self-discovery as a nation”. He said the Fourth Plan objectives would be to continue the efforts to establish a balanced, happy, prosperous and just society on the foundations of the economic infrastructure so carefully built by the present Government during the past decade. He told the people there was no room for slackness in the field of national development, because “ten years of development” was not the last and final word in the history of nations.
The Governor also referred to the disturbances in educational institutions and said those who were responsible for the disruption of peace should “stop their activities”. He regretted that the students sometimes gave themselves in to sentimentalism being misled by this section of interested elements. — Agency
