QUETTA: Speakers at a programme urged students and teachers to play their role for eradication of corruption from society.

Students, teachers and educational institutions could play a pivotal role for making Pakistan a corruption-free society and bringing about positive changes in the country, they said while speaking at an inter-universities declamation contest organised by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) here on Tuesday.

Senior officials of NAB, Al-Hamd University and the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) were among those who spoke on the topic ‘Polluted wealth never bring prosperous nation’.

Students from all universities in Balochistan participated in the declamation contest held in connection with the ‘awareness and prevention regime’ of the country’s premier accountability bureau.

The speakers said that students and teachers worked as the backbone of society and they could bring about positive changes in it. They said the menace of corruption had created turmoil in all facets of society in Pakistan. Terming teachers torchbearers of nations, they said they could play a very effective role in the fight against corruption.

A NAB official said corruption had become a deep-rooted problem in Pakistan and that great efforts were required to uproot it. He said the fight against corruption was difficult. However, he praised the role of NAB in this fight. “NAB will keep on taking drastic measures for a transparent, prosperous and corruption-free Pakistan,” he added.

“NAB is pursuing a three-pronged strategy to curb corruption from society i.e. awareness, prevention and enforcement. Awareness is actually the key component of NAB’s operational methodology,” he said.

Highlighting measures being taken by NAB with regards to awareness and prevention context, he said the bureau conducted seminars and workshops, delivers awareness lectures at different forums, organises walks at public places, holds TV and radio talk shows.

The speakers said that NAB alone could not eradicate corruption from society and that all segments of society should have a contribution in this task.
