MARDAN: A man was shot dead and his nephew injured here on Tuesday when he allegedly refused to hand over body of his wife to her brothers for burial in their hometown.

According to an FIR lodged by relatives of the victims with Shahbaz Garhi police station, wife of Riaz Ali died due to her illness on Tuesday. Afterwards Riaz Ali along with other relatives started necessary arrangements for her burial in his ancestral graveyard.

In the meanwhile, brothers of the woman came and asked Riaz Ali to hand over body of his wife (their sister) to them so that they could take the same to their own hometown for burial there, but he turned down their demand.

After exchange of hot words, brothers of the woman identified as Hazrat Ali and Junaid Ahmad allegedly opened firing on their brother-in-law Riaz Ali, killing him on the spot while his nephew Sohaib received bullet injuries.

The body and injured were taken to the district headquarter hospital, Mardan. The local police later claimed to have arrested both the alleged killers in a raid. They said that they had started investigations into the case.
