RAWALPINDI: A bakery at Chungi Number 20 came under armed attack on Saturday, the police said.

According to police, Mohammad Anwar lodged a complaint with police stating that a 12 to 15-member gang equipped with pistols, Kalashnikov, knives and sticks stormed his shop at 9:40am.

The attackers opened indiscriminate firing on bakery and injured an employee Hafiz Ajaib Yousaf. The attackers also ransacked the bakery, smashed counters and glasses and stole Rs600,000, he said in the complaint.

The complainant suspects that the attackers might be transporters as he had lodged an application with Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Omer Jahangir seeking removal of a Suzukis stand outside the market.

Police have registered a case against the attackers but no arrest has been made till the filing of this report.

A team of Saddar Bairooni police station, led by SHO visited the crime scene and collected evidence and the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, the shopkeepers and the traders of the area staged a protest against the armed attack on the bakery and blocked Adiala Road for traffic.

The protestors chanted slogans against police and the district administration and burnt tyres.

The protest on busiest Adiala Road triggered a massive traffic jam causing troubles to commuters and pedestrians.
