MANDI BAHAUDDIN, June 20: Police claimed to have killed an alleged robber and seriously wounded another in an encounter, in which three policemen were also injured. Police claimed four dacoits snatched a motorcycle (MBA 4952) at gunpoint from one Akash Warriach near Shaheedanwali. Dhok Saharan and Rasool police chased the robbers, who opened fire at the police party near Chak Sher Mohammed, seriously injuring a Head Constable, Mohammad Tufail, besides two Constables Ehsan Ahmed and Nasrullah, they said.

The police also fired in retaliation, killing a dacoit, Mohammad Asghar, and injuring his accomplice Afzal Baig of Gujrat district, while two others managed to escape.

DPO Waqar Haider has announced cash awards and appreciation certificates for the police party, including the injured officials who are under treatment at the DHQ hospital.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified youth was recovered from Mohalla Manzoorabad graveyard on Sunday night. He was shot dead by unknown persons. Saddar police have begun investigation.
