KARACHI, June 20: An exhibition of contemporary Japanese architecture was inaugurated at the V.M. Art Gallery, Rangoonwala Community Centre, here on Monday. The Sindh Minister for Planning and Development, Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.
The event is being organized by the Japan Cultural Centre of the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi in collaboration with the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association Sindh, Institute of Architects Pakistan and the Japan Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister praised the contemporary Japanese architecture.
He was of the view that architecture served as the identification of any nation.
Mr Bukhari pointed out that owing to their determination and hard work the Japanese had made rapid headway in almost all fields of activity.
He also lauded the designing and creative abilities of the people of Japan.
Speaking on the occasion, the consul-general of Japan in Karachi, Shoichi Nakano, pointed out that the Japanese people immensely loved their civilization and culture.
He also spoke of the challenges faced by the Japanese architects for rebuilding the country after the devastation of the Second World War.
The Japanese consul-general said that in the wake of such a process some master pieces of buildings came to the fore.
He hoped that the exhibition would highlight various aspects of the contemporary Japanese architecture.
Sindh Adviser Fatima Surriya Bajia spoke of the deep friendly ties between Pakistan and Japan.
She pointed out that these relations were strengthening further with the passage of time.
Ejaz Ahmed of the Institute of Architects Pakistan delivered a lecture on the essence of modern Japanese architecture.
The exhibition will be open to the general public from June 21 to 25. — APP
