KARACHI: A youth was shot dead by suspected robbers as he tried to get hold of them when they snatched mobile phones from his two friends in Shah Faisal Colony on Saturday night, police said.

Syed Mohammad Zaid Raza, 22, was standing with two friends outside his home on Asif Road in Green Town. For a while, he went to his home to bring something. In the meantime, three suspects appeared there from a street and snatched mobile phones from his two friends.

As Raza was descending from the staircase of his house, he saw his friends being looted and tried to run towards them to get hold of the suspects. However, the robbers opened fire on him when he approached them and fled, said area SHO Tanvir Shah.

He sustained critical bullet wounds on his chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The victim was stated to be a student of some educational institution.
