ISLAMABAD: The present weather system coming from the west brought an adequate amount of rainfall to most of the country Friday and Saturday night, bringing temperatures down in the twin cities and snowfall across the Galiyat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Kashmir.

Although the system receded late Saturday night, it resulted in dry continental air coming from the west that prevails in most parts of the country.

The minimum temperature in Islamabad is expected to drop to 7°C in the coming days, and light snowfall is expected at some high points in Murree Sunday night.

The current rainfall signals normal weather conditions for the month of November compared to a dry spell last month. Although the Met Office had predicted three spells of rain in northern parts of the country, it only rained once in October.

The Met Office has predicted that northern Punjab and the mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan and upper KP may receive normal precipitation this month.

Another spell of rain is expected in the second week of November, when winds from the west and the north are likely to collide with warm air from the east.

The heaviest amount of rainfall – 28 millimetres – was recorded in Rawalakot, followed by 24mm in Kotli, 22mm in Balakot, 20mm in Saidu Sharif, 15mm in Abbotabad, 12mm in Lower Dir, 10mm in Rawalpindi and 7mm in Islamabad.
