KARACHI: With two unsuccessful runs under his belt, favourite three-year-old bay horse Determination obliged owner and punters alike while winning the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.
The fancied horse, who made his debut on Oct 13 followed by another run a week later, won the race as he pleased by 12 lengths in a start-to-finish bid. He beat dark bay horse Parachuter for the honours that helped him open his account.
Mare Pari fall back seven-and-a-half lengths behind to grab third place pushing cotl Salam-e-Kaif to fourth by three lengths.
Earlier, the field was reduced to seven starters following withdrawal of bay horse Shan-e-Kaif.
Determination has sent a message to opponents that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup meeting later this year.
Meanwhile, favourites bit the dust in the first and second race of the day.
With no form worth, mare Sonia Again lowered the colours of favourite mare I. Gold registering one and three-quarter-of-a-length victory to pick up spoils in the opening race.
In the preceding half-a-dozen runs this year, Sonia Again was placed third twice and fourth once.
Sarwan Rose and Killing Ees followed the two in same order on the board.
In yet another upset, dark bay horse Black Smoke stretched his unbeaten run galloping to two-and-a-half lengths victory over bay horse Tip Top to land the next race as favourite Little Rascal finished off the frame.
Fakhr-e-Kashmir occupied third place followed by Duran Duran.
