Following the success of the first 'Startupper of the Year' challenge which was organised in 2015 in more than 30 African countries, Total is back with the 2018 edition.

This time, the challenge invites applications from almost 60 countries worldwide.

The winners of the challenge will receive financial support, plus professional coaching and extensive publicity to advertise their project.

Who can apply in the 2018/19 'Startupper of the Year' challenge?

Startups, working in any business sector for less than two years, are eligible to apply in the challenge.

In each participating country, a local jury of experts from Total, specialists from incubators and accelerators, business leaders and local community stakeholders will select three winners.

Subsequently, a grand jury will select six grand winners from among the first-prize winners from each country.

The projects will be assessed based on:

  • Innovative nature

  • Social and community impact

  • Feasibility and development potential

A chance for women entrepreneurs to shine

This year, the jury will also designate a 'Top Female Entrepreneur' in each country.

This special award, which is in addition to the other awards, is Total’s way of encouraging more women to take part in the challenge.
