KARACHI: Promising top seed Furqan Patel annexed the boys U-18 title in the fourth Sindh Sports Board (SSB) ranking table tennis tournament at the SSB Sports Complex Nazimabad on Tuesday.

Patel, who plays for Fatimiyah Sports Complex, carved out straight 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 victory over fourth seed Shayan Saleem in the final to win top honours.

The boys U-15 title went to second seed Raza Abbas who struggled to whip Asad Sajwani 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 10-12, 14-12 in the other final.

Meanwhile, in an upset galore which shows a trend of juniors making waves, the men’s top quartet was removed as unseeded players stormed into the semi-finals.

Patel handed a stunning 11-6, 11-4, 13-11, 11-7 defeat to top seed and seasoned Atta Abbas. Patel is now slated to face Bilal Tariq in semi-final after the latter accounted for Shahmeer Elahi 11-7, 11-9, 11-6, 13-15, 12-10 in the other quarter-final.

It is pertinent to mention that Tariq had disposed of fourth seed Farhan Hashim 11-8, 11-8, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6 in the pre quarters.

Another talented player Saim Adnan of the SSB Complex, who got the better of second seed Hussain Virani 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 15-13 in the pre quarters, kept his chances alive registering 11-3, 13-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8 victory over Arsalan Alvi in the quarters.

Saim will now take on Mohammad Ali who brushed aside Shah Uzair 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9, 11-3 in another encounter.
