Nandita Das addresses sexual harassment claims against father Jatin Das

Jatin Das has denied the allegations, slamming them as "vulgar"

Filmmaker/actor Nandita Das has released a statement to "reiterate" her support for the #MeToo movement after two women came forward with sexual harassment claims against her father, acclaimed Indian painter Jatin Das.

The Manto director took to Facebook to say that she will "continue to add my voice" to the #MeToo movement, "despite the disturbing allegations made against my father, which he has categorically denied."

While emphasising that "this is the time we all need to listen, so that women (and men) feel safe to speak up", she also expresses doubts about the veracity of the allegations against her father, saying that "it is also important to be sure about allegations so as not to dilute the movement."

Environmentalist Nisha Bora has claimed that Jatin Das forcibly kissed her when she met him for work at his studio in 2004, while journalist Anushree Majumdar said that he made her feel uncomfortable and harassed her with phone calls after demanding that she work for him.

Jatin Das has denied the allegations, slamming them as "vulgar": "I am shocked. All kinds of things are happening these days... Some people do things and some people make allegations. I don't know her, I have never met her, and even if I did meet somebody somewhere one doesn't behave like this... It is vulgar," he said to Indian press yesterday. "There is a game going on, some people are real, have done some things while some people are making allegations for the fun of it," he added.

Haha...when someone talks against your father, they are mere allegations? Nandita Das, your hypocrisy has been exposed. Just spare a though for the poor lady who must have gone through hell, all because of your innocent daddy.

Nandita Das's response is now more rationale because she questions the veracity of allegations against her father. However, her prior slogan (#MeToo slogan) was to demonize men based on allegations without any proof. Glad that Ms. Das adopted a more logical approach of following the due process to establish guilt after her father was accused.

This is clearly a set up to defame Nandita Das because everyone knows Nandita Das is a wonderful woman and always speak for women. Her campaign of not working with actors accused of harassing women is what hurting other people that’s why they planned this to set her up by accusing her father . This is low

‘"despite the disturbing allegations made against my father, which he has categorically denied." Ya, Dad is innocent but all others are guilty. She should keep quiet until the accuser takes up the case and final verdict is given.

These leftist communists are being exposed day by day. How does Jatin know some allegations are true while allegation on him is false? First of all how does he know if it is false or true at all unless he has some time machine or 100% working lie detector with him.

@Amarnath but she she has raised doubts on allegations . When she was supporting others at that she never asked to verify the allegations and declared the men guilty.

There might be some truth to these allegation because historically society has been Male dominated but it seems a lot of these allegation need to have a threshold ...how is somebody going to prove against he forced me to kiss when he was 85 year old and he mad me feel uncomfortable...how is that uncomfortable for unknown nobody to come in and destroy the reputation of anyone ...like mesha ali fiasco she was harassed in front 25 people yet nobody noticed ?
