NAROWAL: A suspect in custody was allegedly subjected to brutal torture by Saddar police, causing injuries to his tongue and neck. The police deny allegation.

According to sources, Sohail (30), a resident of Thillay Kurd, was picked up by Saddar police in connection with a dacoity case some five days ago and was being interrogated.

The sources said that during interrogation the police tortured the suspect who suffered cuts on his tongue and neck.

When his condition worsened, the police took the injured suspect to Narowal District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, they said.

According to police, the suspect was an addict and was allegedly involved in incidents of theft and dacoity. They claimed that the suspect felt severe craving for drug and on not getting it injured himself with a sharp-edged weapon.

A duty doctor at the hospital’s emergency ward said the condition of the injured suspect was stable.

The spokesman for district police claimed Sohail tried to commit suicide in custody. The police registered a case of attempted suicide against the suspect, he added.
