UPPER DIR: The police recovered a 13-year-old boy kidnapped from Dir city on Friday within hours of the incident and arrested five kidnappers.

The boy was going home after school when the accused kidnapped him in a populated place of the city. The police arrested five out of six accused nominated in the FIR.

District police officer Mian Naseeb Jan said that six persons had kidnapped a grade 8 student while he was going home from school.

He said a police party followed the kidnappers and recovered the boy and arrested five kidnappers from Mirashpati hilly area.

He said raids were being conducted for arrest of the sixth accused.

Mr Jan said that reason behind the kidnapping was subjecting the boy to sexual abuse according to the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the students of various schools and Dir Degree College took to the streets and protested against the kidnapping of their colleague and blocked Dir-Peshawar road to traffic.

They said the incidents of kidnapping in Dir city and other areas of the district were increasing by the day. They said what was alarming that the schoolchildren were becoming victims of the menace.

They said parents were feeling insecure to send their children to school. The students said police should keep a vigil on those elements who were involved in such cases. They also demanded stern punishment for the offenders.
