KARACHI: PIB Colony police on Thursday registered a case against MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar and 80 to 90 other unknown persons on charges of rioting as the politician had allegedly led a violent protest over the ‘disappearance’ of a schoolgirl on Wednesday night, said Gulshan SP Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto.

The girl had fled with a boy of her school and they both were recovered safely from Surjani Town on Thursday, added the officer.

Speaking at a press conference, the SP said that the 14-year-old schoolgirl had gone missing on Wednesday. Her parents approached the private school concerned whose administration informed them that the girl had arrived at the school very late and was told to go home. However, she did not return home. Subsequently, the family approached the police. Late on Wednesday night, relatives and area people allegedly led by MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar resorted to violence.

The PIB police official said that another person also approached the police late on Wednesday night, stating that his son was also missing.

The police on Thursday conducted a raid in Taiser Town of Surjani Town and recovered them.

The Gulshan SP said the girl was not kidnapped; she had gone with her classmate as she “liked” him.

The police registered an FIR (189/2018) against Dr Sattar and others under sections 147, 149, 140, 341 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
