KHAR: Two security personnel were killed when lightning struck them in a mountainous area in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Tuesday night, local people and officials told Dawn on Wednesday.

They said the mishap took place in the hilly Khaza locality of Banda area. They said that the deceased identified as Sepoy Shuja Khattak and Farman Momand were performing duty in a checkpost situated atop the Khaza Mountain when lightning struck them.

Following the incident, security personnel accompanied by local people immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue work. Both the personnel, the locals said were seriously wounded in the incident and died while being shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Khar.

Confirming the incident, an official of the district administration said the deceased were the personnel of Frontier Corps’ 103 wing.

He said the bodies of the deceased had been dispatched to their native areas.

It is to mention here that Bajaur received heavy rain coupled with hailstorm on Tuesday night.
