KARACHI: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) capitulated to their third defeat in four matches of the Quaid-i-Azam One-day Cup when the Mohammad Hafeez-led side went down by 52 runs against Peshawar in Faisalabad on Sunday.

NBP, KRL, SSGCL and PTV, in contrast, maintained unbeaten sequence intact with relative comfortable victories while HBL regrouped after their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy loss to beat Fata by 26 runs while Rawalpindi stunned Salman Butt’s Wapda and Multan celebrated their first success in the 50-over tournament.

Talented opener Sahibzada Farhan’s 122 (off 142 balls with nine fours and two sixes) was the cornerstone of Peshawar’s total of 263-7 at the Iqbal Stadium.

SNGPL’s chase fizzled out rather tamely in the 47th over for 211 with Hafeez emerging as the top scorer with a 46-ball 38 that included six boundaries.

Career-best efforts from Umar Siddique and Kamran Ghulam carried NBP to a clinical 226-run rout of Islamabad at the Diamond Club Ground in the federal capital.

After being put into bat, the NBP amassed 346-3 in their 50 overs. The left-handed Umar spearheaded the batting onslaught with a dazzling innings of 157 from 145 balls while striking 14 boundaries and hoisting four sixes.

NBP captain Rameez Raja was dismissed for a 103-ball 99 (eight fours and three sixes) as and Umar added 194 for the second wicket before Hammad Azam (45 off 23 balls, three fours and two sixes) joined Umar in an unbroken stand of 79.

The shell-shocked Islamabad then collapsed like ninepins for a miserable 120 in the 31st over with Kamran snaring seven wickets for 23 runs in 6.4 overs.

Umar Akmal struck an 85-ball 92 (six fours and four sixes) to help HBL make 333 all out after Fata opted to field first at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium in Abbottabad. Seamer Abbas Afridi, who was ironically born in Fata 17 years ago, grabbed a career-best 5-51 in 10 overs as the gallant Fata side posted 307 before dismissed in 47 overs.

Despite ex-Pakistan keeper Shakeel Ansar making 100 (107 balls, 11 fours and two sixes), ZTBL still lost to Multan by seven wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Left-handed opener Zeeshan Ashraf starred in the chase with a feisty 82-ball 85 (11 fours and one six) before Imran Rafiq (52) and Khalilullah (60) completed ZTBL’s misery by putting on 112 for the unfinished fourth-wicket stand.

Rawalpindi opener Zeeshan Malik banged run-a-ball 145 (15 fours and five sixes) while inspiring the regional outfit to a rousing 100-run win against Wapda at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Wapda, chasing 263, were all out for 162 with off-spinner Awais Iqbal (5-26 in nine overs) and left-arm spinner Aamir Sohail (4-35 in 7.4 overs) sharing the wickets.

Ali Imran’s 101 (111 balls, eight fours and four sixes) stood out in PTV’s six-wicket drubbing of Karachi Whites here at the UBL Sports Complex.

In the two games in Lahore, SSGCL crushed Lahore Blues by eight wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium and KRL sealed a five-wicket triumph against Lahore Whites at the LCCA Ground.
