MANSEHRA: The residents have asked the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to remove power transmission lines passing over the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Lassan Nawab.

“We took up the transmission lines relocation issue with the district administration and Pesco officials, but to no avail. Further delay in action on it will cause a human tragedy like a Kawai school, where three students and a teacher were electrocuted recently,” resident Junaid Khan told reporters in Lassan Nawab.

Accompanied by local residents, Mr Junaid said it was beyond comprehension why the Pesco was reluctant to remove power transmission lines from above.

“The power transmission wires hang just five feet above the school’s rooftop causing fears among people about the safety of their children enrolled in the school,” he said. The residents said three students and a teacher of a Kawai school were electrocuted last week after a power transmission line touched the flagpole during morning assembly.

They demanded of the district administration and Pesco to ensure corrective measures without delay to prevent public life and property from damage.

REPLACEMENT OF WIRES: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has planned the replacement of old electricity wires in Mansehra city to prevent possible damage to public life and property.

This was disclosed by Pesco sub-divisional officer Mohammad Shahbaz during a meeting between the administration’s senior officials and trader leaders here on Monday. In the meeting, the district administration and traders agreed to jointly work for addressing the issues of power cuts, lack of cleanliness, water shortage and encroachment in the city. Additional deputy commissioner Yasir Khan said the administration would work with traders to beautify Mansehra city besides ensuring the provision of basic facilities to the people. He said one of the local bazaars would be declared model one,where the administration would ensure all sorts of civic services. The official also said encroachments would be removed from the city to ensure smooth movement of the people and traffic.

Tehsil municipal officer Zahid Qureshi said the tehsil municipal administration was removing heaps of garbage from the city and would clear choked sewers.

Trader leader Shoaib asked the administration to impose heavy fine on traders and said members of his community would provide the people with quality products.

LABS SEALED: The provincial health regulatory authority on Monday sealed two unregistered diagnostic laboratories and warned that six local hospitals would be sealed if they didn’t address absence of the required staff, equipment and quality control mechanism.

A team consisting of inspectors Sajjad Khan and Mohammad Arif paid surprise visits to health centres, diagnostic laboratories and health facilities in Oghi and sealed two laboratories. It also examined facilities at over a dozen health centres including maternity centres and warned six of them to ensure the required staff and facilities on the premises to prevent sealing.
