LAHORE: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday called on ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence here on Monday.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours in which both the leaders discussed the current political situation. There was no word from the PML-N on the meeting.

PML-N leader Amir Muqam also met with Nawaz Sharif.

Talking to reporters, Amir Muqam said the people had started feeling the absence of Nawaz Sharif as the PTI government had made their life miserable. “No change will take place by opening governor’s houses for the public. It [change] comes by providing gas, electricity and essential commodities on cheap rates.”

He said PTI’s foreign policy was a big failure as India had openly started hurling threats. He said Imran Khan made false promises with the people.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz held a meeting in Model Town to review party preparations in connection with the upcoming by-polls in Punjab.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, former minister Abid Sher Ali said the party was united under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. He said the party was ready to go into the by-polls.

“Our mandate was stolen in the July 25 elections and it will be remembered as a black day,” he said.

Mr Ali said the world is making fun of the foreign policy of the PTI government as it is not charted out on Twitter.
