KARACHI: The gross daily water supply of Karachi touched the peak figure of over 91 million gallons yesterday, KDA sources said.

After the repairs of the damaged pipeline on Saturday evening, the net supply from the Bulk Supply System yesterday was stated to be about 66.5 million gallons.

The Haleji Lake source supplied about 16.5 million gallons (net) while the remaining eight million gallons (net) came from the Dumlottee Wells.

Officials said it could therefore be claimed that the net supply was now about 90 million gallons daily. This was about the maximum that could be ensured for the City within the present facilities.

Officials also said that six days after the resumption, of water supply, consumption had now started reverting to its normal levels. This was proved by the higher level of the reservoirs early in the morning and in the afternoon.

While the level in the morning had improved by about 18 inches, the afternoon level had improved by about a foot, indicating a fall in consumption during the day.

Despite the KDA figures, there were still some pockets in the City where residents complained of short, low-pressure supply. The complaints related mainly to Federal ‘B’ Area and the PECH Society — localities which were not better off even before the burst in the pipeline.
