KARACHI: The Zaman Town police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in street crimes in Korangi and other areas.

Zaman Town SHO Anzar Alam told Dawn that the police arrested Adnan, who is a son of serving police officer, and Atiq and Wasif, both sons of retired Navy officials.

“They were involved in street crimes and house robberies and were also arrested in the past,” said the police officer.

He added that they were probing it and have also called robbery victims to identify the arrested persons.

DIG Amir Farooqi said the suspects had been arrested earlier by Aziz Bhatti and New Town police.

“They have looted people drawing money from ATMs, committed robberies inside houses, snatched motorbikes at gunpoint and were into drugs and sheesha business to maintain an extravagant lifestyle,” he added.

Relative kills man, injures woman

A man was shot dead while a woman was injured in the Kalri area of Lyari on Thursday night, according to police.

They added that a suspect, Khalid Aurangzeb opened indiscriminate fire on the residents of a flat in Agra Taj Colony and fled.

As a result, Zubair Arif, 36, sustained three bullet wounds on different parts of his body including the head and died while a woman sustained bullet injury on her face. She was identified as Naila, 30, wife of the deceased.

Both were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

A Kalri police official said the suspect who had come from Bahawalpur was a close relative to the deceased.

“The murder appears to be an outcome of some personal differences between the relatives,” opined City SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro.

Meanwhile, Sindh IGP Dr Kaleem Imam took notice of the incident and sought a detailed inquiry report from the City SSP, said police spokesperson.

Man shot dead

A man was shot dead in Orangi Town on Thursday in the limits of Pirabad police.

The police said Nawabzada, 32, was gunned down allegedly by his friend Mohammad Husain in Frontier Colony over some personal enmity. The suspect was arrested along with a 9mm pistol used in the crime.
