TWO deputy commissoners from Punjab lodged a written complaint of political interference against two Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNAs. Both government servants accused the lawmakers of coming down hard on the respective DCs to transfer and post their nominees to plum places. Many of these recommendations were for officials of the revenue department. The DCs’ complaint went viral on social media.

This incident has reminded me of the story about a blind clergy man who was asked to avoid excessive consumption of halwa. The pious man instead paying heed to advice, said: “What’s the use of me being blind if I cannot enjoy the sweet dish as much as I wish?”

Idealists and day dreamers! Our elected lords do not come to power to abide by the law. They want things done at their whims, no matter the laid down code of conduct.
