DACCA: President Ayub will address newspaper editors and correspondents on Sept 24, East Pakistan Governor Mr Abdul Monem Khan disclosed this to newsmen at the Tejgaon airport yesterday [Sept 11]. The Governor said this would provide the editors an opportunity to exchange their views with the President.

Meanwhile arrangements are being finalised to accord a civic reception to President Ayub during his forthcoming visit to East Pakistan by the members of the Dacca Municipality. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by our correspondent in Karachi,] Three-fourth of Karachi will go without water until some time on Saturday [Sept 14]. Reason: Major breakdown in the Bulk Water Supply System due to a burst in the main pipeline.

The burst took place about midnight on Wednesday at a point near the University staff residential area as the steel armour of the mains had been corroded by constant seepage of water for an unknown period. The KDA engineers, who started the repair operation around 9 a.m. yesterday, were still engaged with the excavation part of it. After removing the earth layer — eight feet deep — they will retrieve the damaged pipe and replace it with a new one.
