LAHORE: Two women and five children, including a suckling, suffered burns in an acid attack in Manawan area here on Wednesday.

Police said a rickshaw driver, Shafqat, allegedly threw acid on his wife, mother-in-law and five children in crowded bazaar.

According to initial police inquires, Shafqat’s wife Rani Bibi had left him and started living with her parents. She was going on an auto rickshaw with her mother and five children – one-year-old Aliza, Sehar Bano (5), Ghulam Murtaza (14), Nirma Shahzadi (18) and Afshan (20) – when the suspect threw acid on them and fled the scene. All of them suffered burns and were rushed to the Mayo Hospital.

The condition of two of the children was stated to be serious, the police said, adding a case had been lodged against the suspect.
