LAHORE: Keeping up with their past academic performance, girls have this year again clinched five out of six positions in the Punjab University’s BA/BSc annual examinations, 2018.

The results declared by the controller of examinations at a prize-distribution ceremony at university’s Al-Raazi Hall here on Monday showed that only one male candidate could bag top position in the BSc examination.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed, Acting Controller of Examinations Abdul Rauf, Additional Controller Raja Shahid Javed, deans of various faculties, senior faculty members, students and their parents were present on the occasion.

According to the notification, of 224,143 candidates, 99,366 were declared successful showing a pass percentage of 44.33.

The total candidates appeared in BA/BSc annual examination (Part-I) 2018 are 131,815 out of which 51,980 got through with 39.43 pass percentage.

Of 84,266 candidates appearing in BA/BSc exam (Part-II), 43,767 passed the exams and percentage remained 51.94.

A total of 5,608 candidates appeared in composite exam and some 1,968 passed, posting 35.09pc result.

Total candidates appeared in Special Categories are 2,454 and 1,651 got through with 67.28 pass percentage.

BSc student Muhammad Umer Ali roll No. (020520) got over-all first position with 712 marks. BSc student Sidra Khan 67239 bagged second position by securing 711 while Rukhsana Nazer (BSc 083714) stood third with 699 marks.

In BA, Saima Jabeen (010423) stood first by securing 666 marks, Shazma Rehman (039188) clinched second slot with 646 marks and Zeenat Anmol (064009) remained third by obtaining 641 marks.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed said the administration was aiming at producing quality graduates and efforts were being carried out to make academic programmes on a par with international standard.

He said the university was improving BA/BSc degree programmes to equip the graduates with relevant skills.

The VC announced provision of free education and scholarships to position holders for carrying out their study in Punjab University.

He also announced Rs500,000 honorarium for the staff of department of examinations and Rs100,000 for monitoring teams for showing outstanding performance.

He said BA/BSc examinations were conducted in five divisions of Punjab, Gilgit, Skardu and Quetta. He said the result of only 99 candidates was late out of 224,143 candidates.
