LAHORE: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says Basha Dam cannot be built through charity money and the PTI government should resume work on it where the Nawaz government has left.

Talking to reporters after visiting the Data Darbar shrine here on Monday, Mr Abbasi said mere statements would not help build the dams.

Mr Abbasi who is contesting NA-124 by-poll said the party leadership had awarded him ticket for his political struggle and sacrifices (for the party). He said the PML-N would win in the by-polls as the people would vote for the development made during the PML-N rule. He said he would win in the by-poll as no ‘hidden force’ could work here. “How I was defeated on both National Assembly seats in July 25 elections every body knows this,” he added.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters here, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz said the party would raise voice in national and provincial assemblies for the formation of judicial commission to probe rigging in 2018 elections. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had assured Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif of constitution of judicial commission and now he should keep his words.
