KARACHI, June 12: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged a protest rally outside the press club here on Sunday against “state-sponsored terrorism, government’s failure in arresting culprits of target killings, bomb blast at Madinatul Ilm mosque and burning of KFC restaurant.
The rally, which also condemned desecration of the Holy Quran, demanded dismissal of Sindh governor and coalition.
Addressing the participants, MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehanti referred to the recent target killings of MMA leaders Aslam Mujahid and Jamal Tahir, and IJT activist Farhan Asif, and deplored the government’s failure in arresting the killers.
He also flayed apathy of the rulers towards the issue, saying that if heirs of a slain person were not allowed to lodge an FIR against suspects, where should people go to seek justice.
The MMA leader said that instead of arresting terrorists and killers, the police deployed in the city had been protecting and patronising them.
He said that the incidents of lawlessness and terrorism had again been tarnishing the city’s image and affecting economic activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasrullah Shaji claimed that conspiracies were afoot to hijack public opinion and engineer results of the government’s choice in the coming local elections.
