KARACHI, June 12: The Industrial Crime Unit early on Sunday morning arrested what they described a close associate of Rehman Dakait from Malir and recovered a sizable quantity of arms and ammunition from his possession. A senior officer of the unit told Dawn that they acted on a tip off that some associates of Rehman were present in Dawood Goth, Malir. Subsequently, a raid was conducted during which an exchange of fire took place; however, no one was reported injured.
Police arrested Imam Bukhsh, 26, alias Imam Lala and recovered three hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs, a G-3 rifle, a TT pistol, eight magazines and 800 bullets of Kalashnikov. Police also recovered 55 bottles of locally made liquor from the suspect.
In Mauripur, the Anti-Violence Crime Cell (AVCC) of police arrested a gang member of notorious Arshad Pappu group during a raid.
Police said that the arrested suspect, identified as Shiraz alias Dakoo, was supposed to be a close aid of the absconding suspect Arshad Pappu.
DSP Khurram Waris said that the police on some information raided a place in Mauripur where the suspects opened fire at police. He said the police returned the fire and managed to arrest Shiraz. However, two accomplices of Shiraz escaped. He said that the names of those fled were being kept secret as more raids were in progress to locate them. Police recovered a grenade and a pistol from him.
Mr Waris said that Shiraz carried a head money of Rs300,000. He was allegedly involved in numerous cases of killings, attempts to murder, police encounters, and others. Shiraz was also involved in killing of seven people at a wedding ceremony in Mirpurkhas.
BODY FOUND: The body of a young man stuffed in a gunny bag was recovered from Surjani Town late on Saturday night.
Police said that the body, having torture marks and signs of strangulation on the neck, was recovered behind the Mazar of Ghayab Shah in Surjani Town. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. Following the legal formalities, the body was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.
INJURED: A mortuary attended was wounded by some armed suspects at the mortuary of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre early on Sunday morning.
Hospital sources said that a body was brought from Shahrae Faisal police limits. Sub-inspector Ayaz of Sharea Faisal police station accompanied the body.
Duty doctor, Dr Abdul Razzak told Dawn that after performing the post-mortem examination of the body he went back to the office telling the mortuary attended to hand over the body to the victim’s family.
“A little later, the mortuary attendant Anwer Masih informed me that some people who had come with the body have manhandled him,” Dr Razzak said.
As I reached at the mortuary, a man fired several shots in the air and fled in a car. SI Ayaz also escaped along with the suspect, the doctor added.
Later, an FIR was lodged at the Saddar police station.
ROBBERIES: Robbers intruded the house of an MNA in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, held the occupants of the house hostage, and made off with cash, jewellery, and valuables.
PPP MNA Nafisa Raja was held at gunpoint by some unidentified people. They got into the house and held all of the occupants of the house hostage. They collected cash, jewellery, and valuables and fled with the loot. A case (FIR-304/05) was registered by the police.
Besides, some unidentified people intercepted Mohammad Hussain in North Nazimabad, in Taimuria police limits, and deprived him of his cash, a mobile phone, and belongings.
Ghulam Bashir was intercepted by three unknown people in Sharifabad. The robbers deprived him of cash and other belongings.
Two armed men intercepted Danish in Sir Syed Town and deprived him of his mobile phone.
Mohammad Haneef was intercepted in Pirabad police limits by unidentified gunmen who deprived him of cash.
Some armed people snatched a cellphone and cash from Ms Farida in Ferozabad police limits.
Mohammad Usman lodged a report at Sachal police station that unidentified persons snatched cash from him.
