LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority on Sunday sealed three slaughter houses and confiscated 3,600 kg meat of emaciated and sick animals.
The teams later discarded the substandard meat.
PFA Director General retired Capt Muhammad Usman said illegal slaughterhouses were shut in the area of Bakar Mandi, Allama Iqbal Town and at Chundri Road.
He said emaciated and sick animals were being slaughtered for getting meat which were to be supplied to local butcher shops.
He said the teams had also found poor hygiene issues and unavailability of record.
He further said PFA registered cases against the four suspects in different police stations of the city.
The DG said PFA in collaboration with concerned departments would evolve a policy to ensure the provision of quality meat in Punjab.
He said the authority was considering establishing a meat vigilance cell by taking on board all other departments’ representatives for the elimination of illegal slaughterhouses from Punjab.
