KARACHI: The three suspected militants, who had been killed in a ‘shootout’ with police in Ittehad Town on Tuesday, were identified on Wednesday.

One of them was identified as Zubair alias Waqas who was stated to be the chief of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (Swat) in Karachi.

A senior police official said the mobile phone of the TTP chief showed he had remained in touch with two hardcore militants of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi who had escaped from prison recently.

“Zubair might have helped them escape from the prison. He was a resident of Korangi and according to his family, which has received his body, he did matriculation,” the policeman added.

The other deceased were identified as Rehmat Ramzan and Faisal Rasheed.
