KARACHI: The Sindh government and jail authorities on Wednesday suspended the chief chemical examiner and two jailers respectively over alleged negligence and other charges, according to official notifications issued to this effect.

Chief Secretary Sindh retired Major Azam Suleman Khan suspended the services of Dr Zahid Ansari (BS-20), chief pathologist/director laboratories and chief examiner with immediate effect.

A notification issued by the chief secretary’s office did not give any reason behind his immediate suspension.

However, Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh for Information Barrister Murtaza Wahab in a statement said that Dr Ansari was removed for “disclosing confidential information” before media regarding tests of two bottles recovered from the room of Sharjeel Memon inside a private hospital.

Separately, IG Prisons Imran Yaqub Minhas suspended assistant superintendents of prisons Mujahid Khan of Central Prison Karachi and Naseem Ahmed Shujra of district prison Malir with immediate effect.

The IG prisons’ notification said that they were suspended due to their “misconduct and negligence” in performing their legitimate duties being in-charge sub-jail at Ziauddin Hospital, Clifton where UTP Sharjeel Memon was confined.
