LAHORE: Acting governor and Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Tuesday when a single person does signatures of other MPAs on a requisition (for appointing the opposition leader), it will take time to settle this matter.

The Punjab Assembly secretariat has yet to notify Hamza Shahbaz as opposition leader.

The assembly secretariat is inviting the lawmakers whose signatures were found to be dubious on the requisition for appointing Hamza as opposition leader.

Hamza, however, sees no legal justification to delay notifying the opposition leader.

He told reporters the signatures of PML-N MPAs on the requisition should not have been made controversial. The speaker did not follow the right procedure, he alleged.

“Delay to notify opposition leader in Punjab Assembly amounts to insult the House,” he said.

Hamza also reminded Prime Minister Imran Khan to constitute a judicial commission to investigate rigging allegations in the 2018 elections.

He held the PPP leadership responsible for failure of pitching a joint opposition candidate in the presidential election. He said the PML-N would not allow dissolution of the local body government.
