LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) pledges to work on a strategy to ensure sustainable growth of the provincial capital.

“I have given my vision to the senior officers of the LDA and its directorates, the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) and the Water and Sanitation Agency. Under this vision, I have directed the officials to give me their input for a sustainable development of Lahore under an integrated strategy. I also invite the civil society to take part in this activity aiming to give relief to the people,” LDA Director General Amina Imran Khan told Dawn on Saturday.

The LDA is a public sector civic organisation dealing with a variety of matters related to approval and development of housing schemes (both in public and private sectors), building, commercialisation, revenue, allotments, transfer of plots/houses and other properties. Town planning, traffic engineering and transport planning and many other assignments are part of its domain.

“The LDA officials shouldn’t work in a non-professional manner and must do something new under a system of simplified procedures / process that could quickly provide relief to the people. I have asked the senior officials to work on issues, challenges, threats and possible solutions,” the DG said. She said the officials would also make efforts to make Lahore an environment and eco-friendly city.

Earlier, while presiding over a meeting, she directed the officials concerned to devise an effective plan for provision of clean drinking water, water conservation, filtration and its treatment, traffic management, greenery etc.

The Wasa managing director told the participants in the meeting that the city would soon have four water treatment plants at Mehmood Booti, Babu Sabu.
