A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team probing a money laundering case against former president Asif Ali Zardari and others on Sunday conducted a raid on a sugar mill owned by a PPP leader's ally in Badin district, and seized documents and arms.
According to a senior official of the agency, the sugar mill in question is owned by Omni Group Chairman Anwar Majeed — a close aide of Zardari.
During the raid, the official said, the FIA team recovered seven Kalashnikovs, four semi-automatic rifles, two digital video recorders, 27 hard discs, one virtual storage device and financial files and ledgers.
All seized weapons were handed over to local police for verification purpose, the official added.
Another FIA official pointed out that the purpose of the raid was to recover documents to ascertain wealth statements of Majeed — one of the co-accused in the Rs35 billion fake bank accounts scam.
The official further said that during the initial probe it was discovered that the Omni Group owns 10 sugar mills, several companies and some agriculture farms spread over thousands of acres in Sindh.

Officially licensed weapons recovered...on private property? The rabbit hole goes deep and the other end of the tunnel is Bilawal House.
These are the people who don't pay the growers. Arms were found their goons use to eliminate people and enslave the peasant farmers. The situation must change.
Why arms were hidden in sugar mill, and whom these arms were belong to? Obviously, the owner must be responsible and charged for having arms in his mill - investigate further and establish full facts.
Good. Get all plundered money out of them!
About time.
These mills in truth are owned by Zardari
It would be interesting to see how far the FIA and other investigating agencies of Pakistan can go in chasing Zardari and his cronies for the crimes committed by them.
If all else fails, Zardari and his PPP will start threatening the break-up of the federation and will try to blackmail the rest of Pakistan.
And, Zardari, the man notorious for his guile and cunning, may well manage to win some other disgruntled outfits to his side and play the situation to his advantage.
One wonders if the Pakistani state will be able to stand its ground in the face of such a challenge and for how long.
Zadari, you have stayed longtime in President House of Pakistan and now is the time for longtime stay in the Jails of Pakistan. Be ready.
My sixth sense tells me these are Zardari Sugar mills with the help of OMNI cover!
Game begins...
Well done
Will it be a raid similar to the one that happened at Sharjeel Memon's house where the recovered billions are still to be recovered.
Good. We need more of this to deter would be corruption scandals.
This will continue only until all parliamentary elections have concluded and PTI has consolidated power.
Match about to end.
PPP is the epicenter of corruption and money laundering.
Since NAB is proactive in Sindh so please also conduct raid on Mirza Sugar Mills in Badin owned by Zulfiquar Ali Mirza as the same also fall in same category.
So far only an hesitational apologetic shy approach. Many criminals still got elected in recent elections in Sindh, no better change in near sight, in Sindh. But still people have expectations from Imran Khan, he can deliver through his Governor.
‘The official further said that during the initial probe it was discovered that the Omni Group owns 10 sugar mills, several companies and some agriculture farms spread over thousands of acres in Sindh.’
No prize for guessing who all that actually belongs to.
GoodJob the 80s Nationalism has started once again grab from the riches in the name to share with the poors!! The question is who benefits it....
Accountability should begin in earnest now that the mouse stands cornered.
How many of these mills are actually owned by PPP top leadership?
Keeping Zardari under pressure of arrest till IK Government President and Ministers selected.
Why the raid took several weeks after the arrest of the owners? You seriously think they will have anything in office to incriminate them just like the famous 400 billions embezzlement by Dr Asim!
Please change your Web page composure. He puts picture of hydro project while reporting on thermal electric stations. Now he has pictured a Rangers contingent while reporting FIA raid.
@F No the match is just starting.
Break the muscle power of your opponent and it becomes easy to pounce the target.
Get them before they make a run for Dubiya
@Sameer At-least they are official, the same however, cannot be said about the MQM weapons. Anyways, the noose is tightening it is great.
My Pakistani brothers I'm you Sindhi Brother. I will you the truth and the ground realities are down right painful and will make a grown man in tears. I live in interior Sindh, our hospitals, schools, colleges, police station, roads, farmers etc., everyone is suffering. I support NGO's and help them translate as we go to deep interior Sindh it's so sad people don't even know how to keep basic health hygienic standards, they are having 10 kids per family as they are poor and kept uneducated, Zardari and his kids use given money to these people who have nothing and they vote for them, it's sad and few hundred rupees buys their votes as my people are so poor and they are not educated so they don't know any difference between good and bad. Educated people who know are forced and threatened by police and local zardari and bilawal goons to vote for Bilwal, fake encounters are commons. Please pray for Sindh my Pakistani family. We will come out of it and Pakistan will rise as nation Amen.
I am thinking this other way round, they are all doing things to cover up for Zardari and for money!!
@Imtiaz Ali Khan I am really touched by your very earnest narrative prevailing conditions in rural Sind. It clearly shows that the since a decade or so back, while preparing, as a UNDP consultant Pakistan’s Tourism Plan, & traveling to remote areas of the country, I found the common people in these areas to be extremely humble, uneducated, subservient to their tribal, community, clan or beradari through control of politically entrenched Sardars, Waderas, Khans & above all Chaudaries, deciding their fate be it minor/major disputes of land, marriages, female education, enmities & above all political preferences. Going through your very painful description of existing conditions in rural Sind, I can vouch that nothing has changed during all these years. To tell the truth, I am very skeptical that PTI who have embraced most of these responsible for this prevalent pathetic conditions, into its fold as coalition partners would alleviate their woes. Educating them is the only remedy available
