RAWALPINDI, Jan 9: Test discard Mohammad Zahid was Wednesday warned for intimidatory bowling as Rawalpindi struggled to contain Rest of Punjab on the second day of the Quaid Trophy match at the KRL Stadium.
Zahid was involved in a tiff with batsman Mohammad Fazil late in the day and followed it up by hurling two successive bouncers and then continued to intimidate him.
“Zahid was bowling with the specific aim of hurting the batsman, so he was warned,” umpires Iqbal Butt and Sajjad Asghar said.
But they said the matter was not so serious that would prompt them to report the matter to the match referee Abdul Sami Khan.
Fazil batted well in scoring an unconquered 40 and together with Sufian Munir put on 79 runs for the sixth wicket. Sufian stood at 50 not out when play ended 14 overs early due to fading light with Rest of Punjab 250 for five, a lead of one run.
Other batsmen among the runs for the Rest who had resumed at 68 for no loss, were Saeed Anwar Jr with 57 and Rizwan Ahmed who hit 41.
The five wickets to fall Wednesday were shared by Naeem Akhtar, Yasir Arafat, Naveed Ashraf, Azhar Bhatti and Babar Naeem. Interestingly Zahid remained wicketless.
