QUETTA: The chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, Prof Qibla Ayaz, has appealed to the religious scholars to help the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other organisations eradicate the menace of polio from the country.

He expressed these views at the Polio Emergency Centre, Quetta, along with members of WHO Yahya Ghafar, director general CII for Research Dr Inaamullah, Maulana Dr Attaur Rehman, Maulana Anwar ul Haq Haqani and others.

He said that it was very unfortunate that some religious scholars had declared polio vaccines haram in 2001-02 which created hurdles in the eradication of this disease from the country, adding that the former government of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) had got conducted the tests of vaccines from reputable health organisations in KP and found nothing haram in them.
